A 12-year-old Nelson boy has become the youngest filmmaker to become a finalist at the Banff Mountain Film Festival.
Logan Carlstrom’s self-made video Best of Jo is nominated in two categories, for Best Short Mountain Film and for Best Film on Mountain Sports.
It features Jo, an adventurous Lego character that climbs, fishes, and heli-skis across different sets at Logan’s house that he disguised to look like mountain scenery.
Those adventures even include an avalanche.
“Those were just sheets, but yeah, it does look pretty good on the movie,” said the young filmmaker, who credits home-schooling for giving him enough time to perfect his craft.
“That’s definitely helpful. I do a version of home-schooling that can be called unschooling, which is the child-led learning. And I get to choose what we study.”
