Good Book: “George and Sam: Autism in the Family”

George and Sam: Two Boys, One Family, and Autism

George and Sam: Two Boys, One Family, and Autism. This is true story of a mom in England with 3 sons- her oldest 2 living with autism. Charlotte Moore has three children, George, Sam, and Jake. George and Sam are autistic. “George and Sam” takes the reader from the births of each of the two boys, along the painstaking path to diagnosis, interventions, schooling and more. She writes powerfully about her family and her sons, and allows readers to see the boys behind the label of autism. Their often puzzling behavior, unusual food aversions, and the different ways that autism effects George and Sam lend deeper insight into this confounding disorder.

My sister-in-law was over on the weekend and she reading this book poolside. She mentioned how much she is enjoying it and I should give it a try. She was enjoying it because it gave a different perspective on child development and how children develop and how they all do it differently. She thought I might like it because it emphasized the different ways children learned and how to use that information.

I am passing along and have this on hold at library :-)

Leaked New Harry Potter Book Online…

AHH! Can’t believe some one would do this! Its true- some one got an advance copy of the book- and took picture of pages.

I have heard from people who have seen the leaked ” Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows” that pages are barely legible and VERY hard in the eyes. They are basically pictures of some one holding the book open to read.

Why do this to yourself when its out in a few days? I can’t imagine any joy in hunching over a computer screen to read a bootleg copy of the harry Potter book- and how un-Harry-like!

Here is a question- If some one handed you these picture files would you read them?
Also- many sites are printing spoilers of the book- if you knew where to find the Harry Potter spoilers- would you go and look?
For me, no and no.
I offer no moral judgement here on the right and wrong of it all- but I just RELISH everything about reading the new books that I just wouldn’t want to taint it in anyway.

Can’t believe how downright giddy I am at the thought of reading the next installment. I won’t be lining up at midnight but I am buying next week to take on camping trip. My daughter and I are gearing by listening to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on cd

This Months Book- Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows !

Finally! To be released released on July 21, 2007

Countdown has begun for me! Of course this months book has to be Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Our family has been eagerly looking forward to it since finishing The half Blood Prince.
I am having mixed feelings- the thought that the series will be ending gives me a lump in my throat. For the last 9 years I have read the Harry Potter books each Summer by the campfire. It has become my own tradition to take the latest book with me camping and read by the fire. I often go to Algonquin Park in August and it can be chilly in the morning and nothing is more cosy than to sit by the warm fire with its delicious smell and read the latest installment of Harry and friends adventures. The though that this will be my last year saddens me. I know that they can;;t go on forever and knowing there IS an ending is what makes them so special- that JK Rowling won;t be spewing endless versions cheapening the brand, er story.
