A Good Series for Boys 8-12 years old- Bunnicula – by James Howe
By Lisa - Unschooling Mom
This book series is great for girls too- but I find it a bit trickier finding good, interesting books for boys in the 8-12 year old range which is why I point it out as being a good book for boys. My favourite book find in a while, - Bunnicula book series by James Howe. The books follow the adventures of Bunnicula the vampire bunny. It sounds silly and childish- but it works :-)
It all starts when Harold’s human family, the Monroes, goes to see the movie Dracula, and young Toby accidentally sits on a baby rabbit wrapped in a bundle on his seat. How could the family help but take the rabbit home and name it Bunnicula? Chester, the literate, sensitive, and keenly observant family cat, soon decides there is something weird about this rabbit. Pointy fangs, the appearance of a cape, black-and-white coloring, nocturnal habits … it sure seemed like he was a vampire bunny.

When I was a child my parents used to read this book for me and later I started to read by myself. I’m now passing on my love for this series to my children. My favorite character is Chester, though Harold is a very close second. I highly recommend these books.

I loved this series when I read it as a kid, and my daughter loved it when she read it a few years ago.
We often give these books as birthday presents.
