Nintendo DS Pink Ribbon Edition for Girls
Nintendo is offering a new limited edition version of the popular game console, Nintendo Ds Lite in a “pink ribbon” version. the Nintendo DS Lite Limited Edition Pink Ribbon retails for 129.95 and 5.00 of each sale goes to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure campaign. This is the same cost of regular DS console.
Not sure how exactly I feel about this. It always bothers me when corporate America uses a “cause” to sell product. I like that they are donating money to a worthy cause its just that they need to exploit their “generosity” and use it to get us to buy their stuff.
A Nintendo DS will probably be one of the most popular Christmas gift for kids this year and if you are goin to buy one may as well get one where some money goes to a good cause.
Do I want my daughter playing on a console with a Pink Ribbon on it? I don’t know why it makes me feel squeamish. The visual of my healthy little girl playing Super Mario on a game console with logo on it the reminds me that many woman are living and dying with breast cancer- is it too much of a downer for me to handle? Am I a bad person?
Should I be talking about breast cancer with my young child ? Isn’t life scary enough? My daughters grandmother died of breast cancer 2 years ago. I certainly don’t hide it from her and we discuss taking care of your body and monthly breast exams, etc. I don’t have anything against these Pink ribbon consoles at all and i am happy they are donating the money, Just seems a but too politically correct.
Why not a “green” version? Why not give the money and be done with it? Why do I have announce to everyone I am politically correct with my white Ds and prominent pink ribbon?
I like awareness ribbons . I hate when they get used to market stuff..
I hate it when advertising machines try and disguise their marketing as a goodwill and a good cause. I get even more annoyed at the grocery store where they have pre-made bags made up to sell of “desired” foods for food banks. The bags have bakes beans, kraft dinner, peanut butter, tuna, etc in them. It actually gets my back up every time, Why? Because they charge full price for the items Want to impress me- sell the bags up at cost or give me 2.00 off my bill if I buy one. Don’t act like you are donating to charity, I am donating to charity you are just profiting off my white suburban guilt.
Sorry for the rant, Bit of a mood today :-)
