Best Cloth Diapers- Cloth Diaper Reviews

This is quite a subjective and people do seem to feel strongly about what cloth diaper they think is best. I have tried pretty much every kind of cloth diaper and cloth diaper cover and wrap you can think of over the year. At some points it has reached near obsession :) They diaper I keep coming back to over and over again and stick with is the Mother -Ease One Size Diapers with the Air-Flow Diaper Cover

I have also tried Fuzzi Bunz, Chinese prefolds with every cover possible, Indisposables, and about 10 other various brands and styles including Nicky’s , Aristocats and bummis. I really like the Nikky terry wrap - ice stretch and texture. I found the cotton and wool nikky;s not really worth the money or hype- they were fine though. I used Chinese prefold cotton when babies were newborn and I found the unusual fold-”twist fold” worked best with my skinny legged son.

Below are some of my opinions on them. I know others have different experiences- for example lots of people SWEAR by Fuzzi Bunz cloth diapering system and I could not get these to work if my life depended on it- they were just awful for us. I really wanted to like these and every time my son had them on I ended up with mess on my hands- the change the sheets in the middle of the night kind of mess.

Mother Ease All-in One: My favourite- wash beautifully, never leaked. You will need about 30 diapers and liners and 4-5 covers for each stage. They are supposed to work from 8-35 lbs. They are far too bulky to work with a newborn- I couldn’t use until my babies were about 6-8 weeks old.

Fuzzi Bunz This is s pocket style diaper. You insert either prefold or insert to absorb in “pocket of diaper. This diaper is quite expensive. They are about 19.00 each plus the insert. I have to say- I really hated these diapers. I bought tons of them because there were so many rave reviews. The leaks were messy and happened every time my son wore them. I gave up. One good thing about these is they re-sell well on ebay. You need to buy different sizes for each stage/size. I know ots of moms who swear by these so give them a try- but I really do NOT like these diapers.

Chinese Pre-Folds: These are bulky and a bit tricky to master. I used these exclusively when baby was a newborn. They work well with the major diaper covers- Nikky, Bummis, etc. They plump up and soften with each wash- so don’t be fooled if you see them
unwashed. There are many different folds- check this site out for different diaper folds.

Make Your Own Anti-Fungal Baby Wipes Recipe

I began making these years and years ago and have seen several variations. I prefer to buy quite a few baby washcloths ( about 30) and put them into empty baby wipe tub. I make the solution first and then add wipes. Some people are very tidy and stack wipes neatly- I just throw them in. I have also seen people put solution in spray bottle and spray onto dry washcloth. You can also make your own washcloths by cutting up flannel squares from old receiving blanket, etc. Another method is to take a roll of high quality paper towel and “saw” in half with knife, then put in round Tupperware container. Whatever works!

Basic Baby Wipe Recipe

2 Cups water
1 tsp liquid baby soap ( I use water one smells nicest to me- currently I like Lil’ Goats brand)
2 tsp vegetable based oil ( sweet almond oil, olive oil, grape seed oil, etc)
few drops of lavender or Tea Tree oil or grapefruit seed extract

Note: stay away from nut based oils if history of allergies.

There are all kinds of variations- can add more or less water. The lavender smells really nice. Grapefruit seed extract is great for warding off yeast infections so I used this one a lot. It is expensive but I have used Burt’s Bees baby oil just for the scent.

Make Your Own Diaper Cream: Recipe for Calendula Cream

This is VERY similar to the Burt’s Bees calendula cream- but I have had this recipe longer and I suspect given the ingredients that this is better. It makes a fanstastic baby gift or baby shower gift. One batch makes an ample supply- I make about once a year and have enough for our family and give these away to new moms all the time.
This is a fantastic diaper cream as well terrific for chapped lips, elbows or whatever. It is a non-barrier cream so babies skin can breathe. The ingredient list is quite scary but all are found easily. Most health food stores or stores that sell dried herbs. It is also quite cheap to make- the herbs cost under 10.00 and if you use olive oil it is Read the rest of this entry »
