Singapore Math- What Books You Need to Buy
We are going into our 3rd year of using Singapore Math Curriculum. My son has a great aptitude for math and this has worked really well for us- you can work as slow or fast as you like. The focus is on “grasping” concepts rather than learning by memory or rote.
Each lesson from the Singapore Math Textbook and takes about 5-10 minutes and then you work on math problems using concepts you just learned in the workbooks ans tyhat will typically take about 10 minutes to half hour.
The cost was a pleasant surprise- I whole year or semester cost me about 50.00.
It is hard to navigate which books you need- I don’t know why they don’t make it clearer. I’ve broken down the years and what books you need.
Trust me it is not as obvious as it sounds- I am not sure why they have made it so hard to figure out what you need to buy. You will see zillion choices for home instructors guide, assessments, practice sheets Us version, standard version, etc. I have made list of the books you need up until level 6 so don’t get freaked out!
What Singapore Math Textbooks and Workbooks to Buy?
Singapore Math offers variety of practice books, etc you can buy as well if there are some areas your child needs to work on a little more.
Some Amazon sellers offers most of the books in kits- which would have been handy for me when I started buying!
Singapore Primary Mathematics Primary 1 is for when you first start and very beginning Math. The kit has two textbooks and 2 workbooks. This will do most families for 6 months to a year of homeschooling.
Singapore Mathematics Level 2 Kit is the next step after Primary 1. This may seem obvious but if you look at all the versions and textbooks Singapore Math offers you will understand- it is confusing and overwhelming. Took m close 2 hours I think to make my first order and I even then I had to double check with my girlfriend to make sure I had right versions and editions. Again the kit has 2 textbooks and 2 workbooks.
