Found out from astronomy expert “Grace” at Allegany State Park during her weekly Star Watch, that will be spectacular meteor shower coming in August. The Perseids on August 12. I used to watch these in awe every summer at Algonquin Park– was almost like a fireworks show.
You can start to watch from Friday at around 11pm August 11 as well as the Saturday the 12th. . The darkest part of night is best time.
Tips for viewing a meteor shower:
If you live near a brightly lit city, drive away from the glow of city lights .
F ind a dark, secluded spot where oncoming car headlights will not ruin your sensitive night vision. Look for state or provincial parks.
Once you have found your spot, lay back or position yourself so the horizon appears at the edge of your peripheral vision, with the stars and sky filling your field of view.
