Oh my oh my… What a night. Seems like for weeks my husband and I keep telling each other that we live in bizzaro world. Almost every day has provided us with drama, chaos and plain WEIRD events Last night was no exception.
Lat week during unpacking i found a recipe that I LOVED and thought I had lost. It was very cheese enchiladas. I was quite excited and planned to make this week. I made it for dinner last night The recipe required a fair amount of chopping- onions, green pepper and a Jalapeno pepper…
We ate dinner to rave reviews. I did the dishes and then was working on puzzle when I felt weird burning tingling in my hands.. After about 5 minutes they were ON FIRE! Almost like a chemical burn. The pain lasted about 1/2 hour and went away. Then later that night I went into hot tub with kids and as soon as I put my hand in the water- OWWWW! The pain was much more intense then the first. My husband thought it might be from the jalapenos, but I had washed my hands several times, been in hot tub, etc.
I thought maybe I had somehow got chlorine on my hand.. then my husband got upset because I had started a new medication and maybe it was a side effect or maybe i was having a heart attack! The pain wasn’t tingling but burn.
He did a bit of Internet doctoring and came up with “jalapeno hands” and we went into gales of laughter ( me despite the agony I was in) and read several people accounts and cures.
I wanted to try none of them- fearing I would aggravate the pain. The pain seemed to lesson after about an hour and a half and then I thought of using aloe vera mixed with tea tree oil- and the pain went away almost immediately- but this could have just been coincidence. At any rate- If you are cooking with jalapenos 9 an I never will again!) try using canned first or at least wear gloves!
