I have written about ti before- that I think the major problem in United States is healthcare. I still am dumbfounded that Americans are so against universal healthcare.
The thing that strikes me most when visiting the states is how “unhealthy” people look. I am not talking about upper middle class and higher but average people just look unhealthy. I see more skin problems, acne, tooth decay and over all unhealthy looking people wherever I turn.
I was just reading this article on cnn.com that American are no turning to retail medical clinic (!) at Wal-Mart and Walgreen for basic and primary health care needs.
How can Americans thin this is okay? When driving on highways in the states I see billboard after billboard for hospitals and clinics. There is something inherently wrong with this.
doctor and the business of medicine should not e driven or motivate by profit. There should be no incentive of any kind for people to be “sicker” or less sick. There is money to be made for drug companies and labs when you a sick and are prescribed drugs and tests. There is money to be made when the very sick are denied coverage because there is no profit in it for health insurance providers.
The system is flawed!
I think think the accessibility of fresh foods- foods that are not heavily processed , fruits and vegetables is ridiculous is ludicrous. If you can find it in a supermarket it of poor quality and expensive. We are fed a constant diet of processed sugar, white flour and fat to keep our bellies full.
Couple with no access to reasonable health care you can see s future the middle class will be in serious trouble and is at risk of disappearing all together.
I could go on and on. I am very troubled How we have separate ourselves so much from where we get our food that we may actually be in a food crisis and not even know it.
