A proud and emotional day for me..It has been a hard road for us last couple of years. My eldest daughter deiced to go to school this year and as an unschooler at heart was a bit of a transition :-)
The pic is of her and her teacher- who was phenomenal.
Liz passed with flying colours- graduating with honours and will be attending highschool in the Fall.
Yes shined my sink this morning. It is BUFF. I am still in baby steps land but will get there. I did do FLYlady several years ago and trying it again. I did find it quite helpful and not sure why it fell by the wayside. FLY stands for Finally Loving Yourself- a concept I LOVE. Doing it for yourself and not out of guilt or outside pressures. I am trying to instill that into kids and not be heavy headed but want them to feel pride and peace that comes from organized home.
We decided to take on chores.. Something I said I would never do. I am finding keeping on top of housework overwhelming and building resentment.
I have spoken with kids and we agreed to have formal chores.
Before you think there is work camp going on in our home thee are the kids chores-
Son waters plants ( and we picked out plants for “him” at nursery this week ) , tidy his games up in Rec room daily and tidy shoes in front hall daily. He is almost 8.
My daughter (almost 14) has been taking out garbage on garbage night, emptying dishwasher and tidying her own bathroom. Back breaking I know.
We are starting off small and building it into our routines. So far I have been quite pleased. I long resisted assigned chores but now thinking it gives us all a sense of accomplishment and frankly its nice to live in clean house. We have tried the winging it and every one do as they please route but be honest didn’t work for us. Ther are no punishment or rewards for nit doing chores- clean and tranquil environment ( and mom!) is the reward. Honestly I think it has helped with feeling of community and accountability. The kids help each other and are more mindful that these kicked off shoes at door will have to be tidied by my brother.
I found couple of sites that had okay chores charts to print off. Not totally pleased with them but will do.
I welcome suggestion and links to chore charts you think are good :-)
Chart Sites and Links

Wow- having soooo much fun with this! I have been itching to play euchre for a couple of months now. Trying to get people together to play has been proving impossible.
I really haven’t played much since I was in my twenties and wanted to freshen up a but before trying to teach my kids to play.
I have mentioned before that I think card games are a great way to spend quality family time together as well as exercising the mind and learning numbers, sorting, etc.
I was sure I would be able to find a community of some sort of online euchre- was harder than I thought.
I tried several sites- several online euchre sites I could not even get up and running.
The one I settled on was Yahoo game site based in the UK. I could not find a Canadian or US one. The players there are mostly North American any way so there must be a demand. it was fairly easy to get up and playing. I did have an existing yahoo account- you can use your Yahoo account from any country.
There are several places to play- I mostly play in “social” lounges that get pretty busy. The card play is fun and fast! This ins one reason I am hesitant to let my kids play euchre online – some players get very impatient if you are not lightening fast with your card play.
I had to laugh yesterday with this guy telling me to hurry up.. ( and I will ad I am NOT a slow player by any means) Ended up skunking him Maybe if he took his time to look at cards may win a trick.
One thing that REALLY threw me. I am in Canada and never would have known that the rest of the world plays euchre differently! Here when you order up your partner you automatically play alone. After some research i discovered this rule is only played in South Western Ontario. I have mentioned ot several friends and we are all bit surprised.
The other rule- which I can’t say I like that much is they play “stick the dealer” If calling trump goes all away round to the dealer- there is no misdeal- dealer HAS to call trump. YIKES. This also gave me pause the first few times.
Best Online Euchre Sites?
I have been enjoying alot but I am also quite competitive and like the pressure. Some may find it hard to keep up and play fast.
You are also rated and ranked and that can add to pressure/fun as well.
What are the Best Online Euchre Sites?
Other online euchre sites I tried were Pogo.com I never could get it to work. I am pretty tech savvy so its not me :-)
I download several iphone apps to play euchre as well. I paid for two and was very disappointed. One claimed to have online ability but after I paid discovered my iPhone would not support online game play- just playing a robot. You could only do online with iPad.
I will add later the apps I bought.
I was in a car accident almost 3 years ago and its left my neck in pretty bad shape- reading is somethign that is very difficult- holding my neck in one position has been quite painful and triggers headaches.
Sounds kind of bizarre but if I keep my head steady looking straight its not too bad. I can do this with some acrobatics with an eReader.
I first bought a KOBO, Chapters/Indigo and Borders version of an eReader.
I really liked it- the weight, etc was great. I did have some problems that were irritating and then had some serious screen problem and have had to send it back TWICE in the last month. Th screen pretty much broke with no provocation. Left my Kobo charging came back and screen messed uup and or frozen.
Sending back is HUGE hassle and don’t have it for about 10 days.
Differences Between Kobo and Amazon Kindle eReaders
My dad lent me his Kindle to try and I LOVE it! The build seems much sturdier and I like you can turn pages on either side of the eReader.
The page turn time WAY better- tho I don’t think I would have noticed the Kobo being slow if I hadn’t tried Kindle.
I also find pages to be a bit crisper- but that wouldn’t be a deal breaker.
I got my Kobo for 100.00 at Borders they are 129.00 here in Canada plus taxes. The Amazon Kindleis about 170.00 with shipping and duty. Big price difference but if you can afford it I would not hesitate to get the Kindle.
